A FAVOURITE WALK TO BIG ROCKY

Every year (sometimes 2 or 3 times), we take the National Park walk to Big Rocky. The walk starts in Fingal Bay and meanders along the cost down to Big Rocky which is a little north of Samarui Beach.

This is a great walk in Autumn and Spring – it starts just off Boulder Bay Road and takes about 40 minutes (fast) to over an hour, one way and then the same on return.

We love this walk as it meanders between bush, then views of the coast, different vegetation that changes with the seasons and ends up at Big Rocky – a rocky outcrop that we enjoy wandering over, beachcombing for shells or sea glass, and is also a fabulous spot for snorkelling and fishing.

We normally take a backpack for a simple picnic – you can also drive to Big Rocky (and take a larger picnic) and the signs to it are off Gan Gan Road.

Every Fathers Day, we normally head off to Big Rocky as it is one of Andrew’s favourite spots – if you do take the walk, make sure you also visit Little Rocky which is also sign posted and just before Big Rocky.
